Trump Fires US Election Security Official Who Rejected Fraud Claims

Washington, United States:  Donald Trump on Tuesday fired the government's top election security official, who had rejected the president's unsubstantiated claims of "massive" fraud in the vote he lost to Joe Biden.  Trump announced on Twitter the termination "effective immediately" of Chris Krebs, who leads the agency that jointly declared "the November 3rd election was the most secure in American history." Trump, who refuses to acknowledge that he lost his bid for reelection to Democrat Biden, has repeatedly claimed without evidence that the voting and count were replete with fraud. "The recent statement by Chris Krebs on the security of the 2020 Election was highly inaccurate, in that there were massive improprieties and fraud," Trump wrote in a tweet. "Therefore, effective immediately, Chris Krebs has been terminated as Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency." Krebs, who reportedly ...

Explained: Can US President Donald Trump pardon himself?

With Donald Trump’s presidency entering its final weeks, the former businessman and television personality is expected to make full use of the outgoing presidential tradition of granting pardons. Some fear that the US President will wield his expansive power to pardon some of his closest aides, family members and maybe even himself. Trump — who faces a host of legal challenges, including multiple lawsuits and fraud allegations — will no longer have the extensive legal protections of the presidency once he formally exits the White House on January 20. Possibly pre-empting these legal issues, Trump has been asking aides whether he can self-pardon since 2017, according to a CNN report. In fact, an official told the news network that Trump was “obsessed with the power of pardons”. How does the presidential pardon work? All modern presidents of the United States have the constitutional right to pardon or commute the s...

Donald Trump claims victory in US presidential election, again

US President Donald Trump yet again claimed victory in the election in a fresh tweet, saying “we will win”. Trump has not conceded in the US presidential elections yet, claiming “big win” in his tweets while also mounting unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud against the Democrats. This has come even after media organisations declared Joe Biden the winner of the US presidential election.   Trump tweeted about a “big win” on Tuesday again and accused rival Biden’s Democratic party of “trying to steal” the election - without citing any evidence. “We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!” tweeted the president. Trump’s tweet came immediately after Biden, in an address in his hometown of Delaware, told his supporters to “keep the faith” and warned them that the final results could take a while. The president twe...
